Taking On Big Asparagus

I’m a recent convert to asparagus. Never liked the bitter, floppy spears that come from too much boiling. Having found a great recipe that involves coating them lightly in peanut oil and putting them under the broiler, with or without a protective coating of pork product, I am not an ardent defender of asparagus. Portsmouth Herald Managing Editor Rick Fabrizio has criticized the massive asparagus subsidies that American taxpayers are providing to growers of this delicious vegetable, which has drawn heat from those who receive the subsidy. Little did we know that mighty asparagus is not only providing a valuable source of Vitamin D, but also helping us win the War on Drugs.
