(CONCORD) A week after New Hampshire Republicans took three-quarters of all the races on the November ballot, Democrats have a chance to gain back some ground during a week of recounts. The Secretary of State’s Office will hold recounts in 21 closely contested State Representative districts and one State Senate race beginning Wednesday morning. Of the 21 House districts, Republicans hold small leads in 12, Democrats in 8. One district, Manchester’s Ward 5, has two Republican candidates within 22 votes of each other.  In State Senate District 20, Republican Joe Kelly Lavasseur has requested a recount after losing to incumbent Democrat Lou D’Allesandro by just 137 votes.

There are just 13 house districts where the difference between the last candidate elected and the first denied office was 20 votes or fewer. Of those, Republicans will try to maintain their wins on 9, Democrats in just 4. The closest race in the state came down to a single vote. In Nashua’s Ward 3, Democrat Brian Rhodes leads Republican Susan Carlson 1,182 to 1,181 heading into Monday afternoon’s recount.

The following chart lists the winning candidates with the lowest vote totals in each district, and their nearest challengers.

Ms French. Thank you for your service in the MANY YEARS you served us but now it is time to step aside and allow someone else represent our district. Do you really need to make the state pay for a recount?
