The War on Breakfast targets Juice

We’ve chronicled the Obama Administration’s ongoing War on Breakfast, starting with Cheerio’s. Then a private lawsuit against Captain Crunch. And a national Eggo shortage. But now, the FDA is going after the makers of Juicy Juice.

The Food and Drug Administration, in a Dec. 4 letter, said Nestlé made unauthorized nutrient content claims about Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice Beverage (apple), Juicy Juice All-Natural 100% Juice (orange-tangerine and grape flavors).

The FDA said the company, for example, used the statement “no sugar added” on the brain development drink. That type of claim is not permitted for foods intended for children under age 2, the agency’s letter said.

Such micromanagement of packaging does nothing to keep us healthy. It’s more about jumping through the FDA’s hoops than providing any sort good information to consumers. The FDA let’s Frito’s make health claims on its packaging, so let’s stop pretending that they are looking out for our health.
