Nonetheless, the reigning veto king until John Lynch this year was none other than Meldrim Thomson Jr., a Republican. I was legal counsel to Mel in 1973 when he vetoed 28 bills during the month of June. As memory serves me, they were all sustained. And that was when Mel was disagreeing with a Republican House and a Republican Senate. From 1973 to 2012 Mel was the veto champion, but now Lynch ekes him out by one veto.
