NH Watchdog Poll- The Pledge
Print This Post
In this week’s Union Leader, Charlie Arlinghaus argues that The Pledge is good for New Hampshire campaigns, and wants to force candidates to take clear stands on policy issues.
The Pledge should be a model for how we expect all candidates to behave in an election. A candidate advertises himself honestly to the voters he places himself before. I want you to know where I stand, he tells us. If elected, for these two years I will vote against an income tax or sales tax. Whether you support or oppose an income tax, you now have a useful piece of information about the policy opinions of a particular candidate. If you support a tax, you know that this candidate disagrees and you can make up your mind accordingly.
What do you think?
Is The Pledge good for NH politics?
- Yes, it forces candidates to say where they stand (56%, 14 Votes)
- No, it takes legitimate debates off the table (44%, 11 Votes)
Total Voters: 25
